THE CIRCLE WILL BE COMPLETED IF, IN TWENTY YEARS, TOM PETTY REVIEWS ONE OF MY CONCERTS:  Last night's Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers concert in Philadelphia, reviewed for the Philadelphia Inquirer by area resident John Wesley Harding:
It was instructive how many hits the 20-song set omitted: yes, "Learning to Fly" and its obverse "Free Fallin'," but no room for "I Need to Know" or "The Waiting," "Breakdown," or "You Got Lucky." Philadelphia heard precisely 12 of the hits in the 20-song set list, which perhaps isn't really enough.

  1. Yes, but was there a contact high?

  2. Before reading the article, I thought, "If he wants to play Hypnotic Eye all the way through, he should go for it," but $150 is definitely Play-The-Hits-Mr-Jukebox money.

Trying to remember: Into the Great Wide Open tour, with Lenny Kravitz opening, and when late in Lenny's set he said "this next song is 'Does Anyone Out There Care?'" a lot of people shouted, "NO!"?

Hey Adam C. -- If my memory is correct, I sat next to a guy who looked just like you at that show. Los Straitjackets were the guys in the costumes that we initially thought were a prank, right?

You are correct, sir (on both accounts)! We swore up and down that Los Straitjackets must have been Petty and the HBs in suits and luchador masks, only to later find out they were in fact a real and independent band.
